Evangelical Liberty University received half a billion dollars in federal aid money

Liberty University, the evangelical private Christian school founded by dead apartheid-supporting bigot Jerry Falwell, received $445 million in federal financial aid last year. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, by the way, received $420 million from the federal government.

related: the supreme court has recently been revising the law on taxpayer standing to challenge establishment clause violations. lawsuits arguing that the government has violated the establishment clause by crossing the boundary between church and state are usually brought by taxpayers. to bring a lawsuit, you have to be personally harmed by it, and the theory is/was that since taxpayers’ money was being used to subsidize religious activities, they were being harmed. but now the court has made it very easy for courts to deny standing to taxpayers, meaning there’s no real way to enforce the establishment clause.

or, as justice kagan wrote in her dissent: “No taxpayer will have standing to object. However blatantly the government may violate the Establishment Clause, taxpayers cannot gain access to the federal courts.”

YIPEE!!!!!!!!!!!

BIG GOVERNMENT FOR ME BUT NOT FOR THEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
